We propose to arrange annual VLBI radar session of 2008 between September 2 and 11.
Please let us know your opinion without delay - deadline for proposal on Italian antennas is April 1.
In principle, asteroid 2000DP107 will approach to Earth on September 11, but not too close (~8 mln. km).
Main goal of our next session may be space debris, and may be some from the Earth group planet.
Best regards, Igor

Здравствуй, Игорь!
С датами согласны.
Но наблюдать планеты, видимо, не удастся. Ближе остальных Меркурий (160 млн.км), но диаметр маловат. Подходящих астероидов тоже не вижу.

Hi All, There isn't nothing else planned on that time so far. However JENAM is planned in Vienna on that time and I would like to attend. Session partly will run without me... What about processing of previous results? Ivar

Hi Ivar!
S> There isn't nothing else planned on that time so far. However JENAM is S> planned in Vienna on that time and I would like to attend. Session S> partly will run without me...
OK, I see
S> What about processing of previous results?
The processing is not finished still, but we plan to make this prior to September session. In part of processing we are working on three experiments now: VLBR07.2, VLBR07.1 and VLBR06.1.
Unfortunately, last year sessions were not too successful. In VLBR07.1 the results were obtained from three antennas (Kalyazin, Urumqi and partially Simeiz), and in VLBR07.2 - from two antennas (Kalyazin and Medicina).
During processing in N. Novgorod of VLBR07.1 the rows of measurements (Doppler shift and amplitude of spectrum) were obtained for 17 space debris objects detected in Kalyazin, 7 objects detected in Urumqi and 2 objects detected in Simeiz. Moreover, row of measurements was received for Venus.
VLBR07.2 was unhappy almost in the common. Urumqi not supported it, Kalyazin worked partially, Noto was observed with incorrect BBC frequencies (schedule error), Ventspils was observed with incorrect BBC side band (LSB instead of USB), the recording from Simeiz contains internal interference peak too close to echo and this prevent to normal processing (in addition, processing of NRTV data from Simeiz displayed incorrect spectrums, while the processing of videocassettes is too long procedure). With other side, first VLBI radar useful output was obtained from Medicina. As you know, we started the development of the second LFVN correlator in Moscow, which is able to work with Mk-5 data. During last time we downloaded the data from Medicina via Internet and transformed its into NRTV format. This allowed to receive first rows of measurements for 95104 object. All obtained to time measurements were sent recently to Ballistic Center of Keldysh Institute for secondary processing. Main results of sessions of 2008 - we detected the echoes and obtained measurements for the space debris fragments at Geostationary ring, including the fragments with high area to mass ratio.
Now we concentrated on processing of VLBR06.1 experiment. We downloaded via Internet the Noto NRTV data, partially copied Mk-5 data from Zelenchuk. And now we tried to transform Mk-5 data of Zelenchuk to NRTV format in attempt to obtain few additional baselines.
The obtained results were presented at IVS meeting in St.-Petersburg in March and I will try to prepare the paper in this conference proceedings (I am waiting of some results of Zelenchuk Mk-5 data processing).
Cheers, Igor

Dear Proposer, Please find below the comment of the IRA TAC on your proposal Greetings.
--------------------------------------------------------------
LFVN annual observations: radar measurements of space debris and solar wind research
The IRA telescopes have been participating in this important international program from the very beginning. Both the Medicina and the Noto antennas are well equipped for this purpose. The TAC notes that this and the following proposal (9-08) should have been submitted as a single ‘coordinated’ proposal for both antennas. Also the plan of observations, in particular start and stop times, is not adequately described. The proposers are requested to contact the scheduler to define the detailed observing plan. Assigned: 60 hr.

Hi Carlo, CS> I updated your allocated time in Medicina on the basis of this request. CS> Please note that on Sep 9-10 there is an eVLBI experiment and CS> your observations on Sep 10 can start only at about 13:30 CS> check CS> http://www.med.ira.inaf.it/calpar.htmThank you. I see that the time after 20:00 of September 10 is free still. May be we will try slightly to move part 4 of our session? regards, Igor

Hi Carlo,
To avoid the menioned problem we propose to move part 4 of our session 9-08 (BTW, it seems that number of our proposal is 9-08, not 8-08 as indicated in schedule of Medicina):
Part 4 will be from 14:00 UT, 10.09 (254) to 02:00 UT, 11.09 (255).
Please let us know your opinion.
Regards, Igor

Dear colleagues,
I am sending the draft of the VLBR08.1 schedule. The experiment consists of 5 parts and includes the radar research of asteroid 2003WT153 (1 scan), Mercury (2 scan) and objects of space debris (64 scans), investigation of solar wind (3 scans) and flare stars observations (6 scans). Waveband of observations is 6 cm.
It is proposed, that 7 antennas will take part in experiment: Evpatoria, Noto, Medicina, Urumqy, Kaliazin, Simeiz, Ventspils.
Please, confirm your participation in the experiment. Let me know, please, if you have any remarks and questions.
Best regards, Maria Nechaeva
