Proceedings

The proceedings of the conference will be published by the Astronomical Institute as a special volume of the Contributions of Astronomical Observatory Skalnaté Pleso. The manuscripts will be prepared using a LaTeX system. All regular participants will receive a copy of the proceedings.

Authors are expected to submit their manuscript(s) anytime until November 2, 2018.

3rd Meeting of the Asian Oceanian VLBI Group (AOV)

Canberra, Australia, November 9-10, 2018

First Announcement

The third Meeting of the AOV will be hosted by Geoscience Australia, welcoming us in Canberra from November 9-10 2018.

The Meeting dates lie in between the 21st International Workshop on Laser Ranging (November 5-9, Canberra) and the 7th International VLBI Technology Workshop (IVTW) in Krabi, Thailand from November 12-15.

The purpose of this AOV Meeting is to discuss current and future topics of the AOV, organise common sessions and foster collaborations. All AOV members are encouraged to attend. The meeting will further be open to IVS members, ILRS meeting attendees and everyone else interested.

The two-day meeting will consist of mainly discussions on the Friday and a presentation style workshop on the Saturday.

July 2018 – second announcement, registration opens

End of September 2018 – registration closes

Early October 2018 – program finalised

November 9-10 – 3rd AOV Meeting in Canberra

MONDELLO WORKSHOP 2018
Frontier Research in Astrophysics - III

As we announced four years ago, the workshop will be held biennially in even years, starting on 2014.

After the excellent results obtained during the 2014 and 2016 editions we have had the confirmation that the biennial cadence of the Mondello Workshop is the most appropriate.

The purpose of this international workshop is to bring together astrophysicists and physicists who are involved in various topics at the forefront of modern astrophysics and particle physics.  The workshop will discuss the most recent experimental and theoretical results in order to advance our understanding of the physics governing our Universe.  To accomplish the goals of the workshop, we believe it is necessary to use data from ground-based and space-based experiments and results from theoretical developments:  work on the forefront of science which has resulted (or promises to result in) high-impact scientific papers.  Hence, the main purpose of the workshop is to discuss in a unique and collaborative setting a broad range of topics in modern astrophysics, from the Big Bang to Planets and Exoplanets.  We believe that this can provide a suitable framework for each participant who (while obviously not involved in all the topics discussed) will be able to acquire a general view of the main experimental and theoretical results currently obtained.  Such an up-to-date view of the current research on cosmic sources can help guide future research projects by the participants, and will encourage collaborative efforts across various topical areas of research.   The proceedings will be published in Proceedings of Science (PoS)- SISSA and will provide a powerful resource for all the scientific community and will be especially helpful for PhD students.

The following items will be reviewed:

Cosmology: Cosmic Background, Dark Matter, Dark Energy, Clusters of Galaxies.
Physics of the Diffuse Cosmic Sources.
Physics of Cosmic Rays.
Physics of Discrete Cosmic Sources.
Extragalactic Sources: Active Galaxies, Normal Galaxies, Gamma-Ray Bursts.
Galactic Sources: Star Formation, Pre-Main-Sequence and Main-Sequence Stars, the Sun, Cataclysmic Variables and Novae, Supernovae and SNRs, X-Ray Binary Systems, Pulsars, Black Holes, Gamma-Ray Sources, Nucleosynthesis, Asteroseismology.
Planetology: Solar System, Sun-like Stars, Exoplanets.
Science from large area multiwavelength surveys and deep-exposure pointings.
Future Physics and Astrophysics: Ongoing and Planned Ground- and Space-based Experiments.

The workshop will include a few 30-minute general review talks to introduce the current problems, and 20-minute talks to discuss new experimental and theoretical results. A series of 15-minute talks will discuss the ongoing and planned ground-based and space-based experiments.  There will also be some general talks about the future directions of scientific research on cosmic sources.   The papers will pass a peer-review process and the workshop proceedings will be edited by Franco Giovannelli & Lola Sabau-Graziati.

The location of the workshop is the Splendid Hotel La Torre, located in Mondello beach in Palermo, Italy, a venue that will provide a friendly and collaborative atmosphere.

C 28 по 31 мая 2018 г. в ГАО РАН состоится VII Пулковская молодежная астрономическая конференция, в которой примут участие студенты, аспиранты и молодые ученые (до 35 лет включительно) различных научных и образовательных организаций Российской Федерации. Конференция проводится для повышения уровня научных исследований и квалификации молодых ученых, аспирантов, студентов, специализирующихся в области астрономии.

Мероприятие будет иметь широкую астрономическую тематику и охватывать как теоретические, так и экспериментальные аспекты астрономических исследований, проблемы инструментальных наблюдений и методы их обработки. Внимание на конференции будет уделено исследованию кратных звезд и внесолнечных планетных систем, будут рассматриваться вопросы, связанные с исследованием нашей Галактики и других галактик, получат рассмотрение вопросы современной космологии и внегалактической астрономии. Большое внимание оказывается астероидно-кометной опасности, в частности, исследованию движения комет и астероидов, оценке точности современных теорий движения спутников планет.

В рамках конференции пройдет школа для молодых ученых по перспективным направлениям астрономии с участием ведущих специалистов ГАО РАН, ИПА РАН, ФТИ им. А.Ф. Иоффе и СПбГУ. Также ряд обзорных докладов будет представлен молодыми специалистами: кандидатами и докторами наук. По результатам конференции будет выпущен сборник трудов конференции в «Известиях ГАО» – специальном научном издании Главной (Пулковской) астрономической обсерватории.

  The "International Max Planck Research School for Astronomy &
     Cosmic Physics at the University of Heidelberg" (IMPRS-HD)

  announces the

   -> 13th Heidelberg Summer School. Topic is

       Gaia Data and Science

   -> September 10-14, 2018

  Graduate students and postdocs are invited to apply.

  The goal of the school is to introduce the utilisation of Gaia
  data in different scientific fields including hands-on and
  excercises with the real data of the first full Gaia data set DR2
  (published in April 2018).
  We bring together five external teachers and a few locals to
  present different aspects of the scientific application of the data.
  The emphasis will be on merging practical methodology and solving
  real-world problems to address questions like:
  How do we select Gaia data efficiently for a given problem?
  How should we handle errors and correlations?
  How can we visualize the structure of data and the results?

  Topics that are covered include:

   - Gaia DR2 data structure and analysis tools
   - Reference system and general relativity
   - Dynamical models of the Milky Way disc
   - Star clusters, Gaia-ESO survey and cluster ages
   - Variability & variable stars in Gaia data

США будут добиваться военного доминирования в космосе, в том числе над РФ и КНР, заявил в понедельник вице-президент США Майк Пенс.

«Чтобы сдерживать и побеждать угрозы, связанные с агрессивными разработками противоспутникового оружия Россией и Китаем, наш президент (Дональд Трамп) распорядился, чтобы министерство обороны укрепило наши космические системы — для того, чтобы Америка оставалась такой же доминирующей в космической безопасности, как здесь, на земле», — сказал Пенс, выступая на космическом симпозиуме в Колорадо-Спрингс. Слова вице-президента приводит пресс-служба Белого дома.

В США задержаны руководители украинской космической отрасли

Сегодня, 17 апреля, во время посещения 34-го Космического симпозиума в Колорадо, сотрудники американских спецслужб задержали председателя Государственного космического агентства Украины Павла Дегтяренко и генерального конструктора Конструкторского бюро «Южное» Александра Дегтяренко.

Об этом сообщают украинские СМИ.

Задержание было произведено в связи с подозрением в причастности украинских чиновников к незаконной продаже в КНДР проектной документации, послужившей основой для северокорейской ракетной программы.

В Колорадо из Вашингтона экстренно вылетел посол Украины в США Валерий Чалый.

Напомним, 14 августа 2017 года в газете «The New York Times» появилась статья об успехах Северной Кореи в разработке баллистических ракет, способных поражать территорию США.

Авторы материала тогда связали технологический прорыв северокорейских ученых с получением ими проектной документации от КБ «Южное».
