                           and EVN Users Meeting

                    Bordeaux, France, 9-12 October 2012

The Laboratoire d'Astrophysique de Bordeaux (LAB) at the University of Bordeaux
(France), on behalf of the European VLBI Consortium, will host the 11th European
VLBI Network (EVN) Symposium and EVN Users Meeting on October 9-12, 2012.
The Symposium will be held at the "Chambre de Commerce et d'Industrie de
Bordeaux", located in the "Palais de la Bourse", in the center of Bordeaux.

The latest scientific results and technical developments from VLBI and e-VLBI
will be reported at the conference. Planned sessions will include stars (from
birth to death), galaxies, AGN, extreme astrophysics, astrometry and geodesy,
planetary and space science, as well as techniques and developments.
Presentations addressing synergy between (e-)VLBI and other new or planned
radio facilities (e-MERLIN, EVLA, LOFAR, ALMA, MeerKAT, ASKAP, SKA,...) or
instruments at other wavelengths (Fermi, Gaia,...) are welcome. The programme
will also include an EVN Users Meeting to foster interaction between the EVN
users and the EVN organization. All individuals who have interest in the
various research fields of VLBI and related fields are encouraged to attend
the symposium and make an oral or poster presentation.

Bordeaux is famous for its wine but also for its rich and varied history. The
city center has been recognized as "an outstanding urban and architectural
ensemble" of the 18th century on the UNESCO World Heritage list.
Additionally, there are many things to discover outside the city in the Aquitaine region.

Accommodation for participants has been pre-booked at several hotels within
walkingdistance of the conference venue. For details, see the above web page.

75th Annual Meeting of the Meteoritical Society —
Second Announcement Available Now! 

** Abstract Deadline:  May 29, 2012 **
The second announcement for the 75th Annual Meeting of the Meteoritical Society is now available. The second announcement includes the call for abstracts, registration form, hotel information, and other logistical information.
This year’s meeting will also include two field trips to visit crater localities in the Australian Outback:  a five-day trip to Central Australia, and a ten-day trip through Western Australia. Space on these trips is limited and will be allocated based on the payment of a deposit via the registration page.

Dear colleagues,

the third Moscow international Solar System Symposium (3M-S3) will take place from October 8 till 12, 2012. Subject matter of this symposium covers many
problems of the Solar system science with a central topic “Moon and Mars exploration”. This topic is close to scientific problems of several projects what are under development
in Russia: “Luna-Glob”, “Luna-Resource”, and the “ExoMars”, the project is considering to develop in ESA-Roscosmos cooperation.

The following sessions will be held during the symposium:

Session 4. Mercury and asteroids
Session 5. Problems of Cosmogony

Готовимся вылететь в Монреаль, Канада, чтобы принять участие в 30 заседании Межагентского координационного комитета по космическому мусору IADC

Dear IADC Delegates,

You may have heard that during the past 15 weeks there has been a local student strike with some demonstrations in Montreal.
The purpose of the demonstrations has been peaceful and non-violent protest against proposed increases in student fees in the Province of Quebec.

Although the student leaders have stressed peaceful and non-violent demonstrations, there have been some incidences of violence often by non-student agitators who are using these occasion for their own ends.

Furthermore please note that McGill University is not on strike, although some McGill university students are participating in some demonstrations, but these have been peaceful. Most of the large demonstrations are taking place off-campus and are usually in the streets or sometimes in the Metros, and may occur in the late afternoon and evenings.
 
IADC Organizing Committee Recommendations:
•We would like to inform you that Civil Security and the Government of Canada have not produced any security notice, therefore we consider the situation as stable and one that does not pose as a serious security risk.
•We recommend that, in the unlikely event that you notice large student demonstrations, that you avoid them.
•We further recommend that if you notice demonstrations on the Campus of McGill university, that you use the McTavish street to access either the Faculty Club or the Stephen Leacock building.
•We recommend that all delegates carry ID with them at all times.
•We further recommend that if you decide to explore the down town Montreal by foot, that you remain vigilant, and avoid any demonstration & large crowds. For transportation we recommend that you avoid the Metro System and use the local Taxi services.  

Since the hotels that are being used by the IADC delegates are mostly within a five minute walking distance from the venue, we do not expect any inconveniences.

First Announcement: 1st VLBI Technology Workshop

MIT Haystack Observatory
22-24 October 2012

The 1st International VLBI Technology Workshop is a natural outgrowth of 10 years of annual International e-VLBI Workshops started in 2002.  As a result of discussions at the 10th International e-VLBI Workshop in South Africa in November 2011, the 1st International VLBI Technology Workshop will still maintain a strong focus on e-VLBI, including e-VLBI science, but the scope is being broadened to include other VLBI digital systems that are equally important links in the VLBI signal chain, including digital backends, VLBI data buffering and recording systems, and correlators, as well as the science enabled by these new technology developments.  As such, the goal is to give a good view and understanding of not only the individual subsystems, but how they fit together as a coherent whole and what science they enable for both astronomical and geodetic applications.
The 2.5-day technology workshop will be followed by a 2-day Digital Backend Compatibility workshop 25-26 Oct 2012 during which members of the global VLBI community are invited (urged!) to bring VLBI digital-backend equipment to Haystack Observatory for interoperability testing. Testing will be done using standard 'zero-baseline' recording and correlation to examine the finest details of the compatibility and interoperability. A similar interoperability workshop held at Haystack Observatory in 2009 with participation from Europe, China and the U.S. proved exceptionally useful; problems identified in that testing session were subsequently addressed, and the systems were confidently deployed for use in operational VLBI systems.

Выступил. В калуарах общался с Ленсом Беннером, он сегодня аж 2 раза выступал. Попросил у него его первую презентацию, но он стыдливо ответил что там у него соавторы, а часть работ из презы не опубликовано... Вообщем не дал. Сказал что у нас Евпатория зашевелилась, проводятся пробные локации планет, он сказал что да, работал с Евпаторий и вспомнил Игоря Молотова  и Зайцева  Спрашивал меня о тех. характеристика, но я в этой теме пас. Он сказал спасибо обсерватории H15 за частую поддержку их локаций и пожелал успехов в Евпатории.

Делегация Роскосмоса примет участие в 30-й сессии МККМ

22-25 мая в г. Монреале (Канада) состоится очередная 30-я сессия Межагентского координационного комитета по космическому мусору (МККМ).
      В работе МККМ примет участие российская делегация, в состав которой входят представители Роскосмоса, организаций ракетно-космической промышленности, Российской академии наук и других организаций. Возглавляет делегацию начальник Управления стратегического планирования и целевых программ  Роскосмоса Юрий Макаров.

Перед началом сессии залезли на холм, откуда виден центр Монреаля.

Мы с Агаповым и Боровиным примем участие в 55 сессии комитета ООН по использованию космического пространства в мирных целях, которая пройдет в Вене с 6 по 15 июня. Так же в ней примет участи и Борис Шустов.
