SCIENTIFIC RATIONALE
The Laboratoire d'Astrophysique de Bordeaux (LAB) at the University of Bordeaux
(France), on behalf of the European VLBI Consortium, will host the 11th European
VLBI Network (EVN) Symposium and EVN Users Meeting on October 9-12, 2012.
The latest scientific results and technical development from VLBI, space VLBI and
e-VLBI will be reported at the conference. Planned sessions will include stars
(from birth to death), galaxies, AGN, extreme astrophysics, astrometry and geodesy,
planetary and space science, as well as techniques and developments. Presentations
addressing synergy between (e-)VLBI and other new or planned radio facilities
(e-MERLIN, EVLA, LOFAR, ALMA, MeerKAT, ASKAP, SKA,...) or instruments at other
wavelengths (Fermi, Gaia,...) are welcome. The programme will also include an EVN
Users Meeting to foster interaction between the EVN users and the EVN organization.
All individuals who have interests in the various research fields of VLBI and in
related fields are encouraged to attend the symposium and make an oral or poster
presentation.

REGISTRATION AND ABSTRACT SUBMISSION
All individuals who wish to attend the symposium are requested to register at
the conference web site:
http://evn2012.obs.u-bordeaux1.fr/Participants who wish to present a contribution at the conference are requested
to submit title, abstract and type of presentation (oral or poster) through the
same web site. The deadline for abstract submission is July 12. The presentations
accepted for the conference will be made known after selection by the Scientific
Organizing Committee (SOC). Depending on the number of submissions, the SOC may
have to change some of the proposed oral presentations to posters to fit within
the above timetable.
REGISTRATION FEE - FINANCIAL SUPPORT
There is a registration fee which includes admission to all scientific sessions,
coffee breaks and lunches during the meeting, the symposium dinner on Wednesday
evening, and conference material. The registration fee is 300 Euros if paid by
the 12th of July, after which time the registration fee will rise to 400 Euros.
Additional tickets for the conference dinner may be bought at a cost of 70 Euros
for accompanying persons.
Payment can be made by credit card (secured connection), order form, cheque or
bank transfer. See the conference web site for complete information.
A limited amount of funds is available for financial support to participants who
make a request in the registration form. Priority will be given to Ph. D. students
and postdocs. The support will consist in a reduced registration fee. Participants
who wish to request support should send a justification to the LOC, including the
name of supervisor (for Ph. D. students), a brief description of their research
topic and the type of presentation they wish to make at the symposium.
VENUE& ACCOMODATION
The Symposium will be held at the "Chambre de Commerce et d'Industrie de Bordeaux",
located in the "Palais de la Bourse", in the center of Bordeaux.
Bordeaux is famous for its wine but also for its rich and varied history. The city
center has been recognized as “an outstanding urban and architectural ensemble” of
the 18th century on the UNESCO World Heritage list. Additionnally, there are many
things to discover outside the city in the Aquitaine region.
Accomodation for delegates has been pre-booked at several hotels within walking
distance of the conference venue. Hotels are filling up fast since October is a
busy period in Bordeaux. It is therefore recommended to book soon. For details,
