INAF-Cagliari Astronomical Observatory, the Italian Space Agency and the
Sardinian Regional Government are happy to announce the opening of the
registration for the SECOND SARDINIAN SUMMER SCHOOL IN ASTROPHYSICS.

In view of the imminent scientific commissioning of the new 64-m Sardinia
Radio Telescope, the Sardinian Summer School 2012  theme will be

           TECHNOLOGY IN RADIO ASTRONOMY AND SPACE SCIENCE
                           Detecting Radio Waves

The school will be held in Pula (CA, Italy) from
June 11 to 16, 2012.

The school will be focused on the technologies behind single dish radio
astronomy and radio science, with particular emphasis on antenna optics,
receiver and transmitter design, active and passive detector's devices,
radar systems, antenna controls and software, back-end architectures,
RFI mitigation techniques, instrument testing and calibration, metrology.

Lectures and hands on activities are planned at the Parco Tecnologico della
Sardegna (Sardinia's Technological Park) at Pula (CA).

Participants will also visit the Sardinia Radio Telescope. Students
from abroad can apply for financial grants.

first based on the applicants' CV and letters of presentation.  In
case of identical rank, priority will be given on a first-come
first-served basis.

The fee for successful applicants is 200 euro and will cover 6 nights

The 11th International e-VLBI workshop will be held at MIT Haystack
Observatory from 22-24 October 2012 (Mon-Wed) with an icebreaker evening
reception on Sunday, 21 Oct.

The list of topics included in this year's workshop is being formally
broadened to include not only e-VLBI, but the broader topics of
digital-signal processing and scientific results enabled by the digital
revolution in VLBI, following the concensus at last November's workshop
in South Africa that these topics are all closely related and involve a
large overlap in personnel, interest, and importance.

As digitization moves further and further up the VLBI signal chain, it
is important that we not only share the innovations that are springing
up everywhere, but that we also maintain focus on standards and
interoperability between independently-developed systems.  The demands
placed on modern VLBI systems for precision and accuracy are rapidly
increasing, and these can be achieved only by careful setting of
standards and adherence to them.  With the expansion of capabilities
being driven by facilities like LOFAR, MeerKAT, ASKAP, and GMRT, these
subjects become all the more important if we are maximize the potential
of VLBI and VLBI-like observations among these instruments and the rest
of the world's VLBI facilities.

A Program Organizing Committee and website for this meeting will be
announced soon.  In the meantime, please reserve the date.  We look
forward to seeing you in October!

Ventspils International Radioastronomy Conference (VIRAC-2012)
“Advances in Radioastronomy of Near-Earth Environment”
August 13 – 15, 2012, Ventspils, Latvia
Objectives
Conference is dedicated to methods and instrumentation of radioastronomy research of near-Earth environment. Our attention is mainly focused on two significant problems: the studies of state of Earth ionosphere and the population of near-Earth space with satellites and space debris.
The conference will provide opportunity for both formal presentations and informal discussions about related scientific and technical aspects. A limited number of exhibition opportunities for posters, products and services will be available during the conference.
Conference is organized by Engineering Research Institute “Ventspils International Radioastronomy Center” of Ventspils University College and is one of activities of the project of the European Social Fund “Receiving, transmitting and processing technologies of signals related to artificial Earth satellites” (2009/0231/1DP/1.1.1.2.0/09/APIA/VIAA/151).
Conference topics
•   Radar, VLBI and single dish observations of artificial and natural near-Earth objects and determination of their trajectories.
•   Radioastronomy research of the ionosphere, including investigations of radio waves propagation, methods of plasma parameters measurements and studies of phenomena in ionosphere plasma, originated by external natural or artificial impact.

WORKSHOP Coming Soon:The emerging role of Space Data Association (SDA) from the IoM to the rest of the World

Date: 9 May 2012

Place: Isle of Man

The IISC will host a one-day workshop on the IoM in order to gather the stakeholders involved in the debate concerning with the value controlled, reliable and efficient data-sharing critical to the safety and integrity of the space environment and the RF spectrum.

The workshop is an expression of the IISC mission. Its results will be used for the preparation of a position paper. The workshop has the aim of identifying the main and most relevant and urgent policy issues in the sector. All the outcomes of the workshop will be a substantial contribution to the position paper, which is expected to be published in late 2012.
